R‑LUME was developed in response to the design brief: create a product that enhances the Rivian Experience Center. The result is a foldable, solar-powered system that provides both shade and ambient lighting. It passively tracks the sun throughout the day to offer optimal coverage, while integrated solar panels store energy to softly illuminate the space at night.

Remote workers are increasingly seeking time outside, but harsh sun, shifting shade, and limited lighting make most outdoor environments unusable. Without consistent shade during the day or illumination at night, productivity and comfort drop. The result: they’re forced back indoors.

This growing population of remote professionals has the motivation and lifestyle that would take them outside—but lacks the tools that make outdoor work physically comfortable, reliable, and uninterrupted.

Remote workers are increasingly seeking time outside, but harsh sun, shifting shade, and limited lighting make most outdoor environments unusable. Without consistent shade during the day or illumination at night, productivity and comfort drop. The result: they’re forced back indoors.

R-LUME uses a sun-tracking solar canopy that adjusts its position automatically throughout the day to maintain consistent shade and generate clean energy.
Light-sensing photo cells track the sun’s direction and send that data to a control mechanism that rotates and tilts the panels on two axes, keeping the canopy aligned with the sun. This optimizes shade coverage and solar energy capture, enabling R-LUME to power its own movement and store energy for nighttime lighting. The result is a fully self-sustaining system that adapts automatically to changing conditions, providing stable comfort wherever you land.
